Thomas Author, President /Service Director of Wausaukee Rescue Squad reported on some of PR done by Rescue Squad including attendance to all school sporting events; Project 33; walk to school event; recently took over back pack program at the school which they renamed in honor of Betty Figas “Betty’s Back to School Rescue”; They also donated Hygiene kits to students at the school. Tec Camp program where they team up with Marinette County Sheriffs Dept. This includes mock car accident where all people involved with rescue explain their part of whole rescue operation. They currently are involved with Marinette County car seat event; Parade participation & fundraising events in local Municipalities; Some of which are the Fall Fest and Marinette County Fair selling food and doing public safety. “Sirens & Sips” has become one of their biggest fund raisers. Donation letters are sent out; Some specialized training that took place this past year included license renewals for all employees holding specialized licenses; Two different EMR classes were held; which brought 8 new members. Some members attended “Active Shooter” training. Further involvement with both Marinette County and Wausaukee School District will enable all to be ready for any event that may occur. WEMS program was attended by members. EMS World was also attended by 3 members.
The Rescue Squad is a 24/7/365 agency; Tom expressed his appreciation for the Municipalities support and assistance from Wausaukee Fire district. WRS has 16 employees; 4 full time employees; rest Part time. They serve Village of Wausaukee; Towns of Wausaukee, Amberg, Wagner and part of Middle Inlet. WRS is licensed at the EMT level but are eligible to run at AEMT level. Overall calls varied for each Township.
Tom continued with explanation of serving part of Middle Inlet Township.
Currently Middle Inlet contracts with Twin Bridge Rescue. If Twin Bridge Rescue cannot cover a call; then WRS is called and they respond; This is a “Mutual Aid” Contract where one rescue will help another Rescue with no pay to Squad (WRS) that is assisting. A contract between WRS and Middle Inlet Township doesn’t work at this time, so WRS and Twin Bridge Rescue agreed that Twin Bridge would pay WRS for services to Middle Inlet Township. At this time a little amount of money is better than none, because WRS is obligated to “Mutual Aid” for municipalities with no pay. After lengthy discussion WRS informed the board this would be one year at which time WRS will gather data and reviews will be done.
2025 WRS Budget and Expenditure handouts were reviewed by board ; followed by questions & answers.
Audience comments included De Shay Morrow District Attorney Marinette County talked to the board about the number of referrals from Law Enforcement; DNR & WI State Patrol which pass to District attorney’s Office for review; also, they provide services to victims of crimes; Diversion program and Drug Corp program. Some concerns of 2025 are the number of Car crashes; also, drug problems continue and Internet Crimes involving children. DA office is doing their best to keep up with the volume of investigating that goes along with reviews of crimes. In turn the referendum that the County is asking the voters of Marinette to increase the levy will help fund public services.
Hank Nowak talked to the group regarding the upcoming referendum that The Marinette County Board of Supervisors has decided to ask the voters to allow us to increase the levy on the April 2026 ballot.
At 8:28 Supervisor Brandon Taylor made a motion to adjourn to board of audit; seconded by Supervisor Jicha
THE BOARD OF AUDIT EXAMINED THE TREASURERS REPORT AND FOUND IT TO BE ACCURATE
